Monitoring Trash Journeys via GPS Technology
Capital city's waste removal woes significantly alleviated through digital solutions
The Department of Environmental Protection and Nature Management has reported a significant decrease in waste removal complaints in the capital city. Previously, there were up to 200 complaints weekly from residents. However, the situation improved drastically in the middle of last year due to the implementation of advanced digital solutions.
To optimize waste management, a digital map of all container platforms in the city was created using specialized software. Furthermore, GPS navigators installed on each garbage truck facilitate real-time tracking of the vehicles' movements along their routes and monitoring of the waste collected. Waste removal is now regulated on an individual container platform basis, ensuring quality control of services and generating analytical data for effective waste management.
According to Daulet DOSKULOV, head of the department, the digitization process has not only reduced complaints from residents of multi-apartment buildings but also increased the coverage of unaccounted service users from 67% to 75%. Additionally, the system allows for a more accurate evaluation of the volume of communal waste, which subsequently aids in better city infrastructure planning.
The digitization process is fully bankrolled by waste removal companies, and the situation with timely waste removal has improved due to the involvement of three additional waste removal companies. With over 60 vehicles operating in a single shift daily, waste should be removed from container platforms at least once a day.
To bolster the digital waste management system, 100 garbage trucks and 15,000 new trash containers have been procured for the capital through contract organizations. In partnership with the city's maslihat, rules for construction waste removal and disposal have been drafted. Moreover, plans are underway to extend these digital solutions to medical and hazardous waste management in the city.
Notably, the capital's digital waste management strategies have proven effective and will soon be adopted in other regions nationwide.
