Mobile game developer Azra Games gains $42.7 million in Series A funding for creating console-grade games suitable for mobile devices.

Azra Games, a pioneering Web3 gaming startup, has raised $42.7 million in a Series A round, led by Pantera Capital. The funding round was spearheaded by Franklin Bi from Pantera Capital, with participation from A16z Crypto, NFX's Gigi Levy-Weiss, and A16z Games' Jonathan Lai.

The funding will significantly expand Azra Games' expert team, accelerate the growth of their gaming titles, and advance other projects in development. A key component of this strategy is the expansion of Azra Labs, the research and development studio of Azra Games, which focuses on the application of artificial intelligence in the development of AAA mobile games.

Azra Games' CEO, Mark Otero, a veteran 0-to-1 game designer, aims to define the 4th generation of mobile Role-Playing Games (RPGs). Otero believes that this new generation should be able to compete with PC and Console RPGs by pushing mobile RPGs into a new paradigm through an advanced gaming approach.

The flagship title of Azra Games, code-named "Project Legends", is a "4th generation of mobile RPG" featuring open worlds, over-the-shoulder camera perspectives, real-time battles, and extended PvE campaigns. The goal is to offer a console/PC quality RPG experience on mobile devices.

The funding will support the expansion of the development team to achieve the technical and creative goals of this next-generation RPG vision. Part of the raised capital will also be used to grow Azra Labs and advance AI research to enhance gameplay.

The strategy of Azra Games includes the use of AI in the development of AAA mobile games. Azra Labs is dedicated to exploring the application of artificial intelligence in the development of such games.

With this substantial funding, Azra Games is positioning itself to lead in bringing high-fidelity RPG experiences to mobile devices through enhanced teams and robust funding from top crypto investors. The total funding for Azra Games now stands at $68.3 million.

The previous generations of mobile RPGs were characterised by text-based games with 2D graphics, enhanced UI and richer icons, auto battles with basic animations, and games offering 3D graphics, interactive turn-based battles, and more sophisticated controls. The 4th generation, according to Otero, should surpass these by offering immersive open worlds, realistic graphics, and dynamic gameplay.

The flagship game, Project Legends, is already open for the waitlist. With this funding, Azra Games is one step closer to redefining the mobile gaming landscape.
