Capital Markets Malaysia Launches SEDG Greenhouse Gas Emissions Calculator for SMEs

Capital Markets Malaysia (CMM) has taken a significant step towards promoting sustainability and climate action in the Malaysian business landscape with the launch of the SEDG Greenhouse Gas Emissions Calculator. This user-friendly tool, available at no cost, is designed to help Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) measure and report their carbon emissions following internationally recognized standards.

The calculator, which aligns with the GHG Protocol Corporate Accounting and Reporting Standard and Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) guidelines, simplifies the complex process of emissions reporting. It offers comprehensive emission factors, including pre-filled data from the IPCC’s 6th Annual Report for common fuel types used in Malaysia and local grid electricity emissions data sourced from Malaysia’s Energy Commission.

The calculator is multilingual, available in English, Bahasa Melayu, and Simplified Mandarin, to cater to Malaysia’s diverse SME landscape. It also supports sustainability disclosures, complementing Malaysia’s National Sustainability Reporting Framework, and helps SMEs meet growing demands from global supply chains and customers for accurate emissions disclosure.

Navina Balasingam, General Manager of CMM, mentioned that the calculator will continue to help SMEs in supply chains disclose ESG data credibly and effectively. Dato' Mohammad Faiz Azmi, Executive Chairman of the Securities Commission Malaysia and Chairman of CMM, stated that the calculator simplifies a complex process and enables companies to make informed decisions towards climate action.

CMM also announced the release of SEDG Version 2, which includes three additional recommended disclosures designed to better align with the reporting needs of global customers. The SEDG Greenhouse Gas Emissions Calculator is part of the broader Simplified ESG Disclosure Guide (SEDG), aimed at simplifying ESG reporting for MSMEs and providing actionable insights and consistency in reporting.
