Major Telecom Giant AT&T Faces $177 Million Data Breach Settlement

AT&T customers who were affected by two major data breaches in 2022, 2023, and 2024 have the opportunity to claim compensation from a settlement worth $177 million. The deadline for submitting claims is November 18, 2025.

The Breaches and Their Impact

The settlement resolves two significant data breaches: one in March 2024 that affected approximately 7.6 million current and 65.4 million former customers, and another breach between 2022-2023 that impacted call and text metadata for nearly all cellular customers.

Compensation Amounts

The compensation depends on which breach affected your data:

  • For the first breach (March 2024): Up to $5,000 for documented loss or tiered cash payments (Tier 1 payments are five times larger than Tier 2).
  • For the second breach (2022-2023): Up to $2,500 for documented loss or tiered cash payments.
  • If compromised in both breaches, claimants can submit claims for each, potentially receiving up to $7,500 total.

Types of Payments

There are two types of payments:

  1. Documented loss cash payment: This requires submitting proof of loss (receipts or official documents traceable to the breach). Self-prepared documents (like handwritten receipts) alone aren't sufficient but can support other documentation.
  2. Tiered cash payments: These do not require documentation.

Submitting Your Claim

You can submit your claim online or by mail. For online claims, you'll need your class member ID, an email, AT&T account number, or full name as on the notice. Paper claim forms can be downloaded, printed, completed, and mailed to:

All claims must be submitted online or postmarked by November 18, 2025.

Exclusion from the Settlement

If you wish to exclude yourself from the settlement, you must send an exclusion request by October 17, 2025.

The Settlement's Status

The settlement still awaits final court approval, with a hearing scheduled for December 3, 2025. Claimants must file before the deadline regardless.

AT&T has been ordered to pay $177 million in a class-action lawsuit over these two data breach settlements. The company has agreed to the settlement but denies any allegations of wrongdoing.
