Lack of drive in job market: April analysis of Offenbach's labour sector
Spotlight on Spring Job Market: A Muted Uptick in Offenbach
This year, the traditional surge in employment opportunities seen during spring has been surprisingly subdued, particularly in Offenbach. A closer look at the April figures reveals a different picture compared to previous years.
While the number of unemployed has slightly decreased compared to March, the change is minimal. Despite this, the unemployment rate remains unchanged at the previous month's level, according to Birgit Günther, CEO of the Agentur für Arbeit in Offenbach. In total, 18,418 people were registered as unemployed in the agency's district during April, a decrease of just 59 compared to March. However, this represents a significant increase of 1,281 compared to the same time last year.
"Instead of a significant decrease in unemployment numbers, as often seen with the start of spring, there has only been a lateral movement," sums up Birgit Günther. She attributes this slowdown to the broader economic environment, particularly affecting those who are not or not adequately qualified.
Offenbach: Continued Struggles
In Offenbach, the unemployment rate remains high, as 7,758 people remain jobless, 55 fewer than in March but 586 more compared to April 2021. The unemployment rate in Offenbach remains the highest amongst all Hessian cities.
County Offenbach: A Picture of Stability
In the county of Offenbach, the unemployment figures have remained relatively steady with only a slight decrease in April. A total of 10,660 people were registered, just four fewer than in March. The unemployment rate, too, remained constant at 5.3 percent. In contrast to Offenbach, the county's situation remains markedly more stable.
The Agentur für Arbeit in Offenbach continues to place emphasis on qualification offers as a means to open up new perspectives for job seekers. Particular focus is given to further training for low-skilled individuals and the promotion of dual training. As Birgit Günther puts it, "An apprenticeship is still an excellent way to start a promising career, even in today's volatile economic climate."
