Kubota Limited, the leading tractor manufacturer, reported a significant increase of 70% in its export sales in May 2025, with 10,354 tractors sold abroad.
**India's Agri-Machinery Sector Braces for a Boost as Kharif Season Forecast Remains Optimistic**
The agricultural sector in India is gearing up for a promising Kharif season, with a positive outlook supported by a strong momentum in tractor sales and favourable monsoon predictions. Escorts Kubota Limited's Agri Machinery Business Division is among the companies anticipating a growth in sales ahead of the season.
The company recently received approval from the National Company Law Tribunal, Chandigarh Bench, for the Scheme of Amalgamation of Escorts Kubota India Private Limited and Kubota Agricultural Machinery India Private Limited with Escorts Kubota Limited. This amalgamation is expected to bolster the company's position in the Indian tractor market.
In May 2025, Escorts Kubota Limited reported a total tractor sales volume of 17,851 units, marking a 0.7% increase compared to May 2024. The export tractor sales during the same period were 651 units, representing a significant growth of 71.3% compared to May 2024.
The domestic tractor sales for May 2025 stood at 9,703 units, a decrease of 2.0% compared to the same month the previous year. However, the company's Agri Machinery Business Division reported 10,354 tractor sales in May 2025, indicating a robust performance.
The company attributes the increase in sales to the timely onset of the monsoon season, which is crucial for the Kharif crop season. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasts rainfall at about 105-106% of the Long Period Average (LPA) for the season, with an early monsoon arrival and well-distributed rains across most parts of the country.
The Agriculture Minister has highlighted government initiatives focusing on improved farming practices, soil health management, and efforts to curb fake pesticides, all aimed at maximizing production during this season. These initiatives, coupled with a positive monsoon outlook, are expected to drive growth in the agri-machinery sector.
Tractor sales, a reliable barometer of farming investment and confidence, are forecasted to grow by 4-7% in FY26, indicating that farmers are investing more in mechanization ahead of the Kharif season. This growth is partly attributed to the positive monsoon outlook and pre-buying ahead of emissions norm changes scheduled in 2026.
The third advance estimates from May 2025 indicate a 7.9% year-on-year increase in Kharif crop output, reinforcing the expectation of a robust agricultural season. Despite some regional concerns like localized pre-monsoon showers damaging crops in areas such as Chhattisgarh and parts of Maharashtra, the overall monsoon and Kharif outlook remains positive due to widespread good rains and improved water storage levels.
Escorts Kubota Limited expects the positive momentum in sales to continue due to an above-normal monsoon forecast, adequate water reservoir levels, and improved liquidity in the farming sector. The company's sales for June 2025 were 19,083 units, a decrease of 0.2% compared to May 2025. Despite the slight decrease, the company remains optimistic about the future, with the forecast for the 2025-26 Kharif season in India being highly optimistic.
This outlook bodes well for the agri-machinery sector, including the prospects of Escorts Kubota Limited's Agri Machinery Business Division in the Indian tractor market. With a positive monsoon forecast, government support, and strong tractor sales momentum, the combination suggests a very favourable Kharif season for India in 2025-26, with expectations of record or near-record foodgrain production and increased farmer income.

- The positive monsoon forecast, government initiatives, and strong tractor sales momentum indicate a favorable environment for growth in the finance sector, as increased farmer income from the Kharif season could boost business activities.
- In the context of the upcoming Kharif season, the growth in Escorts Kubota Limited's Agri Machinery Business Division sales could lead to increased investment in the finance industry, as agricultural businesses may require more loan facilities to purchase machinery.
