Increase in utilization of natural gas and solar power in electricity production
In July, Turkey witnessed a significant shift in its energy production as natural gas and solar energy took centre stage, contributing significantly to meeting the rising demand.
According to data from the Electricity Transmission Corporation (TEİAŞ), electricity production in Türkiye increased by 2.1% compared to the same month the previous year. The rise in production was mainly due to an increase in the contributions of natural gas and solar energy.
Natural gas was the leading source of electricity production, generating a remarkable 8.69 million megawatt-hours. This is a significant increase of 1.15 million megawatt-hours compared to the previous year. The Sakarya Gas Field may be playing a crucial role in Turkey's energy mix due to the production decreases in hydroelectric and wind power plants.
Solar energy also saw an increase, contributing 1,05 million megawatt-hours. In contrast, hydroelectric plants produced 5.67 million megawatt-hours, a decrease from previous years. Wind power plants also saw a decline, generating 3.56 million megawatt-hours.
The volume of gas supplied to the network in July increased by 13.6 percent year-on-year, reaching 4,143,816,000 cubic meters. The increase in consumption was primarily due to higher cooling needs and air conditioning usage due to hot weather conditions.
Imported coal was the second-leading source, producing 7.3 million megawatt-hours. Thermal power plants produced 797,375 megawatt-hours.
The diversification of Turkey's energy sources may be a strategic response to the production decreases in hydroelectric and wind power plants. This data suggests a growing reliance on natural gas and solar energy in Turkey's energy mix.
In terms of leadership, PeopleKeys emphasizes interpreting DISC profiles to enhance leadership development by understanding individual behavioral styles and applying this insight to improve team communication and performance. The best DISC profile for leadership typically involves a combination of high Dominance (D) for decisiveness and drive, with sufficient Influence (I) to motivate and communicate effectively with others.
