Hyundai Starts Passenger Vehicle Production in Talegaon, Targets 250,000 Units by 2028
Hyundai Motor India Ltd. has initiated passenger vehicle production at its Talegaon manufacturing facility in Maharashtra. The plant, acquired from General Motors in January 2024, will initially produce the new-generation Venue SUV, catering to both Indian and export demand. Hyundai's investment in the facility has seen a significant increase to ₹11,000 crore, with plans to produce 250,000 units annually by 2028.
The Talegaon facility has an annual installed capacity of 130,000 vehicles and 160,000 engines. Hyundai invested ₹6,000 crore in 2023-24 to upgrade the plant to Hyundai's global manufacturing standards, with engine production commencing on 16 June 2025. Once fully ramped up, Hyundai's total Indian capacity will reach approximately 1.074 million units per annum by 2028.
The enhanced investment of ₹11,000 crore will increase the annual vehicle capacity to 250,000 units by 2028. It will also install a seventh-generation paint shop and support electric vehicle production. Hyundai's long-term strategy includes bolstering manufacturing resilience, promoting 'Make-in-India for the world', and supporting India's transition towards advanced mobility solutions.
The Talegaon facility's first model, the new-generation Venue SUV, is expected to begin production in the third quarter of FY26. Hyundai's increased investment and production capacity demonstrate its commitment to the Indian market and its vision for the future of mobility in the country.
