Hyundai Manufactures their 100 Millionth Vehicle: an IONIQ 5
Hyundai Motor Company, one of the fastest automotive companies to reach 100 million units of production, celebrated a significant milestone with the handover of its 100 millionth vehicle during a special ceremony at Ulsan Plant's shipping center.
The 100 millionth vehicle, an IONIQ 5, was delivered directly to a customer, marking a momentous occasion for the South Korean automaker. The IONIQ 5 is based on the dedicated electric global modular platform (E-GMP), reflecting Hyundai Motor's commitment to electrification.
Dong Seock Lee, President and Head of Domestic Productions and Chief Safety Officer at Hyundai Motor Company, acknowledged the hard work and dedication of every employee that contributed to the accumulation of 100 million units. He emphasized that this achievement is the first step toward a future era of electrification.
Jaehoon Chang, President and CEO of Hyundai Motor Company, attributed the company's rapid growth to taking on bold challenges and being in constant pursuit of innovation. He expressed gratitude to customers for their support, stating that this milestone was made possible thanks to them.
Hyundai Motor Company achieved this milestone in 57 years since its foundation, joining the ranks of other automotive industry giants such as Toyota and Volkswagen, which have reached significant cumulative production milestones over many decades. However, among recent rapid growers, BYD (Build Your Dreams) is notable for its extraordinarily fast growth in cumulative production, driven by its electric vehicle production since 2003, especially rapid since 2021.
The event featured a celebratory display commemorating '100 million and 1', symbolising Hyundai Motor's ambition to take 'one step further' toward another 100 million units as a mobility game changer. Hyundai Motor Company has also introduced high-performance brand N, signalling its intent to continue pushing boundaries in the automotive industry.
In general, the fastest automotive companies to reach 100 million units historically are legacy giants such as Toyota and Volkswagen due to their extensive production over 70+ years. Newer companies like BYD are notable for how quickly they approach large cumulative volumes in less than two decades, driven by massive recent growth in EV sales.
As Hyundai Motor Company looks to the future, it aims to leverage its achievements to drive further growth and innovation, positioning itself as a leader in the global automotive industry.
