The BMW M2 CS has made a significant mark in the compact car class, setting a new benchmark with its record-breaking lap time at the Nürburgring Nordschleife. The model, unveiled last month, was secretly tested earlier this year and has now officially claimed the title.

Franciscus van Meel, managing director of BMW M GmbH, commented on the M2 CS's impressive lap time of 7:25.5 minutes on the Nordschleife. The car's impressive performance is a testament to BMW's commitment to delivering high-performance vehicles.

The BMW M2 CS boasts several key performance upgrades that set it apart from the standard M2. The model is equipped with a powerful six-cylinder in-line engine featuring BMW M TwinPower Turbo technology, delivering an impressive 390 kW (or 530 hp) and a maximum torque of 650 Nm. This engine has been boosted to 530hp to provide the necessary power for the record-breaking lap.

Power is transmitted to the rear wheels via an 8-speed M Steptronic transmission with Drivelogic, offering no manual transmission option. The M2 CS is significantly lighter, thanks to extensive use of carbon fibre components, reducing its weight by about 30 kg compared to the standard M2.

The model features bespoke springs and dampers, lowering the ride height by 8 mm. It also includes adaptive M suspension and an M compound brake system for enhanced handling. The M2 CS's bronze-coloured forged alloy wheels are wrapped in sticky, track-biased tyres to ensure optimal performance.

The BMW M2 CS's impressive performance is reflected in its acceleration figures. It accelerates from 0 to 62 mph in 3.8 seconds, outperforming the regular M2 Comp by 0.2 seconds. It reaches 124 mph in 11.7 seconds and has a top speed of 188 mph with the M Driver’s Pack.

Along with the M2 CS, BMW will be participating in the Goodwood Festival of Speed hill climb with the M3 CS Touring. The event will also celebrate the 50th anniversary of the BMW 3 Series, with a number of famous racing cars on display. The BMW M2 CS will form part of BMW's display at the 2025 Goodwood Festival of Speed.

UK enthusiasts will have the first chance to see the BMW Concept Speedtop at the 2025 Goodwood Festival of Speed. The BMW M5 Touring and M135 xDrive will also be on static display at the event.

The 550hp M4 CSL, launched in 2022, remains the quickest road-going BMW to lap the Nordschleife, with a time of 7min 18.14sec. However, the BMW M2 CS has managed to outperform the regular M2 Comp, setting a new best time of 13 seconds faster.

Jorg Weidinger, BMW M development engineer, set a new record lap for compact cars around the Nurburgring with the BMW M2 CS. The model's impressive performance and record-breaking lap time have solidified its position as a standout in the compact car class.
