Livin' Large in Astana: Parking's On the Agenda

It's a different ball game in Astana, baby, when it comes to building houses without a parking lot. The city's big cheese, Jenis Kasymbek, made it clear in a sit-down with Qazaqstan TV that no residential complex in the capital will see the light of day without a place to park your ride.

Last year, Astana commissioned an impressive 4.5 million square meters of housing, and Kasymbek made it mandatory for new residential complexes to chill underneath ground, parking-wise. As for the existing buildings, especially those that provide shelter to vulnerable groups, they could use a whee-lift, with parking spaces in short supply. So, the city's gearing up to tackle this problem, and here's the lowdown:

From next year on, multi-level parking lots will be sprouting up near buildings that struggle to squeeze in a ride. The designs are already taking shape. Number one priority, though: newborn buildings will be rockin' those underground parking lots. Kasymbek put it like this:

"Starting next year, multi-level parking lots will be constructed near such buildings - relevant projects are already being developed. Underground parking will be mandatory in new buildings. No residential building will be built without parking," Kasymbek declared.

Now, dig a little deeper, and you'll find that Astana's grappling with parking space issues, particularly in older buildings that typically don't offer enough parking. High-end hotels, though, are already dancing the underground parking jive, hinting at a trend towards slippery parking solutions in future constructions to satisfy the parking cravings.

The city's been chatting about smart parking, efficient parking strategies, but the specifics about mandatory underground parking or multi-level parking lots for new residential buildings have yet to be laid down in writing. The Land Code of Kazakhstan might be the cat that holds those regs on land use and building codes, but the search results didn't spill the beans on any specific clauses or amendments mandating underground parking in residential buildings.

So, while Astana's got that problem under the hood, they ain't telling everything we need to know about the parking game plan just yet. But don't worry your pretty little head, 'cause Astana's got this one on lock.

Businesses in Astana are focusing on real-estate development, with an emphasis on providing ample parking facilities. Particularly in new residential buildings, investing in underground parking lots has become mandatory, as stated by Jenis Kasymbek.
