"The illness rates among care workers remain alarmingly high compared to other professions," explains TK regional manager Manon Austenat-Wied. According to the health insurance company's data, the average absence rate for all occupations in 2023 was 24.6 days.

"A typical day in their line of work is grueling, often at the cost of their own health," Austenat-Wied points out. The findings were based on sickness records of 103,000 TK policyholders in the northeast, making it one of the largest statutory health insurers in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern.
