Halloween Spending to Reach Record $13.1 Billion in 2025
Halloween enthusiasts are set to break records this year, with an estimated $13.1 billion in spending, a 13% increase from last year. The National Retail Federation reveals that consumers are eager to celebrate with costumes, decorations, and greeting cards, while discount stores remain the top shopping destination.
Candy continues to be the most popular Halloween purchase, with a projected $3.9 billion in spending. Meanwhile, Halloween greeting cards have seen a surge in popularity, with 38% of consumers planning to buy them, up from last year's 33%.
Home improvement stores have also jumped on the Halloween bandwagon. Lowe's introduced a collection of inflatable spooky cartoon characters in September, while another major retailer, not explicitly named, offered over 1,500 items under $25 in August. The Home Depot announced its Halloween collection as early as late July, reflecting consumers' eagerness to start their shopping early. Nearly half of consumers began their Halloween shopping in September or earlier.
With per-person spending expected to reach a record high of $114.45, consumers are ready to make this Halloween a memorable one. They plan to spend close to $4.3 billion on costumes alone and about $4.2 billion on decorations, ensuring a spooktacular celebration across the nation.
