Haan secures extended water supply agreement with City of Solingen
Residents of Haan can look forward to a reliable and high-quality water supply until the end of 2046, as the utility companies of Haan and Solingen have extended their water supply contract. The new agreement, which was finalised last December, will see Stadtwerke Solingen continue to supply water to Stadtwerke Haan until 31st December 2046.
The extended contract will provide approximately 1.8 million cubic meters of drinking water annually, a critical service that Stadtwerke Haan values greatly. The soft water from the Sengbach and Große Dhünntalsperre reservoirs is highly prized for its low hardness, due to its low calcium content.
Stadtwerke Solingen's excellent work in maintaining high drinking water quality has been commended by Grit Köhler, CEO of Stadtwerke Haan. The Glüder and Dabringhausen waterworks, managed by Stadtwerke Solingen, ensure the availability of the best quality drinking water. Employees of the Glüder waterworks and the accredited drinking water laboratory of the Stadtwerke Solingen constantly monitor various water parameters to maintain the high standards.
The gentle management of the drinking water protection zone around the reservoir is another measure ensuring excellent water quality. Long-term cooperation with farmers around the Sengbach reservoir in terms of land management and use of seeds and fertilizers further contributes to drinking water protection.
Leif Reitis, CEO of the Stadtwerke Solingen, expressed his pleasure at continuing the successful cooperation. Early extensions of water supply contracts help both parties to avoid supply interruptions, lock in predictable pricing, strengthen partnerships, reduce administrative burden, and plan infrastructure investments.
This proactive measure secures reliable, cost-effective water supply and ensures stable service for customers. The cooperation between Stadtwerke Haan and Solingen ensures a stable and trustworthy partnership for flawless and high-quality drinking water.
In this context, the extended contract between Stadtwerke Haan and Solingen, a partnership valued for its reliable water supply, will soon include provision of services in the finance and industry sectors. To ensure the high quality of the water sourced from the Sengbach and Große Dhünntalsperre reservoirs, both utility companies collaborate closely, including through finance-driven efforts such as infrastructure investments and maintaining a drinking water laboratory.
