Groundbreaking Study 'ZAUF' to Reveal Urban Logistics Game-Changer on April 27
A groundbreaking study, 'Concept and Feasibility Study for Centralized Delivery of Urban Factories - ZAUF', is set to unveil its findings at a public event on April 27, 2021. Conducted by the Technical University of Brunswick and supported by the Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure, this research promises significant improvements in urban logistics.
The study, funded with €84,255, explores the potential of 'hub-and-spoke' concepts in inner-city traffic. These systems, suitable for light commercial vehicles, light trucks, and medium-heavy trucks, can slash driven kilometers by up to 45%, boost vehicle utilization by up to 30%, and cut daily CO2 emissions by up to 32%.
The project's success relies on factors such as vehicle and location selection, and efficient order consolidation. A proprietary program was developed to optimize deliveries, further enhancing the system's effectiveness. By reducing traffic congestion and CO2 emissions, these concepts could transform urban mobility.
The 'ZAUF' project, backed by the mFUND initiative of BMVI, demonstrates the potential of data-based digital applications for mobility 4.0. The upcoming presentation of its results promises insights that could reshape urban logistics and contribute to cleaner, more efficient cities.
