Government Shelves Energy Storage Decree Amidst Widespread Concerns

The Minister of Territory, Silvia Paneque, has acknowledged the lack of consensus surrounding the decree-law for regulating energy storage with batteries. The validation of this decree has been postponed indefinitely, with no new date set. This move follows concerns raised by the agricultural sector and local communities.

ERC deputy Jordi Albert has welcomed the withdrawal of the debate on the decree, citing concerns in the agricultural sector and local world. Meanwhile, Comuns deputy Lluís Mijoler has urged the Government to present a new decree or bill to approve the measures included in the initiative. An extraordinary plenary session may be necessary before the deadline to convalidate the decree, which expires on Monday, the 21st.

The Government's decision to remove the debate from the order of the day was supported by all parliamentary groups except PPC, Vox, and CUP. Jeannine Abella, a deputy from Junts, has offered to fine-tune the elements that made it impossible for her to support the decree. However, Albert Batet from PSC has criticized the Government for breaking promises and underestimating the Parliament.

The decree-law for regulating energy storage with batteries remains in limbo, with no automatic repeal despite the expiration of its convalidation deadline. The Government's request to remove the debate from the order of the day suggests a lack of sufficient support. Further discussions and potential revisions are expected to address the concerns raised by various sectors.
