Germany's Progressive Metropolises: Hamburg Leading the Joyous Charge

Hamburg, Germany, has been recognised as one of the most promising cities for the future, according to the latest SKL Großstädteranking 2023. The study, a collaboration between Süddeutsche Klassenlotterie (SKL) and Glücksatlas, with statistical evaluation conducted by the Institute for Financial Science and Social Policy at the Albert-Ludwigs-Universität Freiburg, has placed Hamburg at the top of the list among the 12 largest German cities.

The city's prosperity is evident in its high capital investments in essential sectors such as the fire department, infrastructure, and schools. Hamburg's economic location is actively working to strengthen its resilience, and the city's business investments have set a new record high.

The study ranks Hamburg as the happiest city among the 12 largest German cities, with a score of 7.16 out of 10. Over half (58 percent) of Hamburgers would recommend their city, and the city remains a top choice for businesses.

However, the study does not provide detailed information on Hamburg's economic output, purchasing power, or capital investments. Nor does it mention the personal living situation, urban features, safety, or public administration ratings of Hamburg.

Despite its high ranking, Hamburg is not the only city in Germany that residents are satisfied with. Other cities that surpassed Hamburg in resident satisfaction according to the SKL Großstädteranking 2023 include Witten, Rottweil, Marl, Bad Mergentheim, Blankenburg (Harz), Döbeln, Kirchhain, Neustrelitz, Müllheim (Baden), Aichach, Gelnhausen, Zülpich, Neuenrade, Merseburg, Königsbrunn, and Demmin.

Frankfurt am Main comes in second place with a score of 7.07, followed by Munich in third (6.9 points) and Berlin in fourth (6.88 points). Dresden and Leipzig have the lowest scores, with 6.49 and 6.44 points, respectively.
