Germany witnesses growth in optical fiber suppliers as 1&1 and Deutsche Glasfaser finalize long-term cooperation deal

1&1 AG, a leading telecommunications provider based in Montabaur, has partnered with Deutsche Glasfaser, a specialist in fiber network provision in rural and suburban areas, to enhance fiber optic availability across Germany. This collaboration aims to accelerate fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) rollouts, particularly in regions where internet access has been limited or predominantly DSL-based.

The partnership has resulted in increased deployment of fiber optic connections in previously underserved areas, improving internet speeds and reliability for residents and businesses. By leveraging Deutsche Glasfaser’s local expertise in network construction and 1&1’s customer base and service capabilities, the companies are accelerating network growth.

This synergy is instrumental in narrowing the digital divide in Germany, making high-speed FTTH accessible outside big cities, and supporting the country’s national broadband goals. Over 2.5 million private households, as well as small businesses and freelancers, will gain access to powerful fiber optic offers from 1&1 through this cooperation.

1&1 AG operates as the fourth network using O-RAN (1&1 O-RAN), promoting more competition and innovation in the German mobile landscape. The company also operates a fully virtualized 5G mobile network, which is the first of its kind in Europe.

In addition to mobile services, 1&1 AG offers broadband connections based on its nationwide fiber-optic transport network and regional networks of city carriers and Deutsche Telekom. 1&1's fiber optic tariffs offer speeds of up to 1,000 megabits per second and competitive prices.

For more detailed information about the partnership and its impact, including specific coverage expansions or user statistics, direct company releases or industry reports released after July 2025 would be necessary.
