German company VBH is ceased to exist - German construction supplier, VBH Deutschland, faces liquidation

In a challenging economic climate for the construction industry, VBH Deutschland GmbH, the German subsidiary of building hardware supplier VBH, has announced its liquidation by the end of 2025. The decision comes after months of unsuccessful investor negotiations and insolvency filings, as the company grappled with financial difficulties.

The construction sector in Germany has been hit hard, leading to increased insolvencies within the industry. This is reflected by a rise in company insolvency filings in mid-2025. VBH Germany, with its focus on the manufacture and installation of windows and doors, has not been immune to these challenges.

Despite the efforts of the parent company, VBH Holding GmbH, to support the insolvency process financially and with personnel, a restructuring plan could not be secured to save the company. Extensive talks with potential investors or buyers for the entire company or parts of it also proved unsuccessful.

Founded as United Hardware Trade (VBH), the VBH Group operates in multiple countries, with subsidiaries in over 20 countries. The group generated sales of around 500 million euros last year, offering a comprehensive range of products and system solutions for the manufacture and installation of windows and doors for window and door manufacturers.

The liquidation will affect approximately 450 employees of VBH Germany GmbH, who will lose their jobs. Despite this setback, the VBH Group is successfully active and on a growth trajectory in its overseas regions.

The VBH Group's withdrawal and subsequent initiation of a sale process for VBH Germany indicate a strategic retreat in response to harsher market conditions. This unfortunate development underscores the ongoing challenges faced by the construction sector in Germany.

  2. In the wake of failed employment policies resulting from unsuccessful investor negotiations and insolvency filings, the focus should shift to implementing industry-specific strategies for adaptation and growth.
