Art Auction Highlights: Sotheby's to Sell Leonard Lauder's Collection in November

In November, Sotheby's will auction a collection of artworks from the esteemed collection of Leonard Lauder. The total value of the artworks set for sale has not been disclosed.

The crown jewel of the tranche is Gustav Klimt's Portrait of Elisabeth Lederer (1914-16), which is expected to net over $150 million. This makes it the most expensive work announced for sale at an auction house so far this fall.

The auction will feature works from various artists, including Cindy Sherman, who is exclusively represented by Acquavella Gallery in the USA, with a solo exhibition at their New York location planned for fall 2026.

Marian Goodman Gallery will debut the work of Edith Dekyndt, a multidisciplinary artist exploring time, light, and space, at Art Basel Paris in October. Templon Gallery will stage an exhibition of new work by Martial Raysse, an iconic Nouveau réalisme artist, in January.

Raven Halfmoon, known for monumental clay and stoneware figures, will be represented by Salon 94. Timothy Taylor Gallery will stage an exhibition of new work by Martha Tuttle in November, some of which incorporates materials gathered during a monthlong residency in Somerset, England.

Acquavella Galleries will also exclusively represent Harumi Klossowska de Rola in the US, with a solo show at its New York location planned for Fall 2026.

Aaron Baldinger has joined Gagosian as Director, previously spending 12 years at Gladstone where he oversaw the fair program and worked closely with artists including Ugo Rondinone and Claudia Comte. Stevie Soares has joined Sebastian Gladstone as Los Angeles Director, bringing experience from Blum and LA's Ceradon Gallery.

Notably, Leonard Lauder, the owner of the collection, passed away in July at the age of 92.

In addition to the Sotheby's auction, other galleries are planning exhibitions. For instance, Jennie Goldstein has been named the inaugural Kippy Stroud Curator at Whitney, overseeing the museum's 26,000-work collection and continuing to curate exhibitions.

These upcoming events promise to bring a fresh wave of art to the market and offer collectors, enthusiasts, and the public a chance to appreciate these works. Stay tuned for more updates on these exciting developments in the art world.
