Financial aid initiatives unveiled by Thailand's Ministry of Finance, focusing on providing support to individuals affected by border conflicts.

The Thai government has rolled out a comprehensive financial relief package to support individuals and businesses affected by the ongoing border unrest with Cambodia. The package, announced by Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Pichai Chunhavajira, aims to alleviate economic difficulties caused by displacement, disrupted livelihoods, and temporary branch closures in provinces such as Surin, Si Sa Ket, Ubon Ratchathani, Buri Ram, Sa Kaeo, Trat, and Chanthaburi.

Local-level support

The government has allocated 100 million baht each to the governors of the seven affected provinces, enhancing their flexibility in managing relief efforts. If necessary, funds can be increased. Additionally, the procurement of security-related supplies is being expedited.

Tax relief

Deadlines for filing and payment of various taxes, including Personal Income Tax, Corporate Income Tax, Withholding Tax, Value Added Tax (VAT), Specific Business Tax, and Stamp Duty, have been extended from between July 24 and August 31, 2025, to September 30, 2025. Citizens are also allowed tax deductions for home repairs (up to 100,000 baht) and vehicle repairs (up to 30,000 baht).

State financial institution aid

The Government Savings Bank (GSB) offers a principal payment holiday until December 2025, unsecured low-interest loans of up to 20,000 baht, and special rates for SME customers. The Bank for Agriculture and Agricultural Cooperatives (BAAC) provides liquidity loans and emergency/rehabilitation loans for farmers and affected individuals, including interest-free loans for the first six months and low-interest loans for up to three years.

The Government Housing Bank reduces interest rates and offers special terms for those who lost homes. The SME Development Bank of Thailand allows payment suspensions and low-interest loans for SMEs (up to 5 million baht per borrower at 0.75% monthly interest with terms up to 60 months). The Export-Import Bank of Thailand extends debt repayments and reduces interest. The Islamic Bank of Thailand provides payment moratoriums and recovery loans. The Thai Credit Guarantee Corporation offers loan guarantees for small businesses with a three-year fee waiver.

These measures aim to alleviate economic difficulties caused by damage, displacement of over 160,000 people, disrupted livelihoods, and temporary branch closures in border provinces.

Minister Pichai expressed hope that the relief measures will alleviate hardship and provide encouragement for the affected people and businesses in the area to overcome the crisis. The relief package provides financial liquidity, deferred tax obligations, and support for home and business recovery to individuals and enterprises impacted by the unrest along Thailand’s border with Cambodia.
