Enhanced high-speed rail routes to Berlin Brandenburg Airport unveiled - Express train connections to Berlin-Brandenburg Airport unveiled, offering quicker travel options

Improved Train Connections to Berlin Brandenburg Airport from December 2025

Starting from the timetable change on December 14, 2025, travelers in Berlin and its surrounding regions will experience significant improvements in train connections and schedules between Berlin Central Station (Berlin Hbf) and Berlin Brandenburg Airport (BER).

The Dresden Railway (Dresdner Bahn), a new 16-kilometer route between Südkreuz and Blankenfelde, will open on December 14, 2025. This line will shorten travel time from Berlin Central Station to BER Airport to just over 20 minutes.

The Airport Express (FEX) will switch its route from running via Gesundbrunnen and Ostkreuz to running south via Potsdamer Platz and Südkreuz. The train frequency on the FEX will double to every 15 minutes (from every 30 minutes).

Regional trains (RE and RB lines) will extend their services to BER Airport:

  • The new RE20 line will run from Lübbenau (Spreewald) to BER Airport and continue to Berlin Central Station, starting with the timetable change in December 2025.
  • The RB24 line, previously running from Eberswalde to Alt-Schönefeld, will be extended directly to BER Airport.
  • From Oranienburg, the RE32 line will be extended to BER Airport on an hourly basis beginning in February 2026, operating via Berlin Ostkreuz.

As a result, Berlin Ostkreuz will see increased connectivity with two trains per hour towards BER from these regional lines.

Some connections will be less direct: the regional train stop at Gesundbrunnen will lose its direct link to the airport, and passengers from western districts like Spandau and Falkensee will need to change trains.

Note that there will be infrastructure works leading to the closure of Südkreuz for regional and long-distance traffic from October 24 to December 12, 2025, for the installation of new electronic signal boxes, potentially impacting travel during that period.

In summary, travelers from Lübbenau, Eberswalde, and (from February 2026) Oranienburg will have improved, mostly direct regional train connections to BER Airport. The trip from Berlin Central Station will be faster, with more frequent FEX service taking the new Dresden Railway line via Südkreuz and Potsdamer Platz instead of the previous northern route.

Brandenburg residents will have new direct connections to BER from the Spreewald region (Lübben, Lübbenau) to the south, Oranienburg in the north, and Eberswalde in the northeast. The S-Bahn line 85 will be extended to BER, creating another new direct connection for northern Berlin.

However, the exact impact on travel time between Berlin Central Station and BER, the current detour route and frequency of trains, and the implementation timeline for these new connections remain unspecified. Travelers are advised to check the latest updates from German Rail and the Transport Association VBB for the most accurate information.
