Dresden Craves a Taipei Tie-Up: Airports and Investors Mark the Mesh
Exploring the Possibility of Establishing a Link Between Dresden and Taipei
Does Dresden desire a direct flight connection to Taipei?
By Thomas Staudt
Dresden - Does Dresden yearn for a direct flight connection to Taipei? The outgoing commissioner for large-scale settlements, Dirk Diedrichs (62), advocates for it, driven by the burgeoning semiconductor giant, ESMC, in Silicon Saxony.
However, the business centers in western Germany are barely reachable from Dresden Airport, and passenger numbers are dwindling. Diedrichs, a seasoned global investor whispers, "The airport proves crucial to the location. We can't afford to lose Dresden's airport, considering the investors."
ESMC is slated for operation by 2027, employing 2000 and promising a torrid "interplay" between Saxony and Taiwan once at peak capacity.
"In Germany, the next gateways to Taiwan are all lodged in the west - Munich and Frankfurt," says Diedrichs. Picnic options from Prague exist, but they're unsatisfactory. He strives to forge better direct long-haul connections with the BER for all of eastern Germany.
Aviation Industry's Decision on Dresden-Taipei: A Waiting Game
Diedrichs, office bearer for ESMC's settling process in the state chancellery for the last two years, has navigated hurdles like a seasoned sailor. The flight connection to Taipei? The summer timetable of Dresden Airport boasts connections to 14 destinations in seven countries, served by 12 airlines.
Up to 111 flights depart per week. "The region's connection to international air traffic is sustained via the route network of the Lufthansa Group," says airport spokesman Uwe Schuhart (48).
