EU Commission Probes Vaccine Maker Over Antitrust Fears

The European Commission is currently conducting unannounced inspections at a company active in the vaccines sector. The Commission has concerns that the company may have violated EU antitrust rules by abusing a dominant market position. The investigation focuses on possible exclusionary practices that could amount to competitive disparagement.

The Commission's probe is a preliminary step in investigating suspected competitive practices. It is important to note that there are no search results indicating which company is under investigation. The duration of such inquiries is flexible, with no legal deadline, and depends on various factors. The Commission has recently concluded two other antitrust investigations into competitive disparagement in the pharmaceutical sector, AT.40588 Teva Copaxone and AT.40577 Vifor.

The Commission respects the rights of defence and does not prejudge the outcome of the investigation. Unannounced inspections were carried out with the assistance of officials from relevant national competition authorities. The Commission will continue to monitor the situation and take appropriate action if necessary.
