Essen & Zonguldak Boost Twin City Ties with New Cooperation Plans
Essen and Zonguldak, two cities with a shared mining history, have been strengthening their ties since May 2025. They've held regular exchange meetings, with a significant one taking place in September, focusing on closer cooperation in economy, science, and sports.
The cities' collaboration has been notable in health cooperation, with an inaugural event held in May. On Tuesday, September 16, Mayor Thomas Kufen welcomed a delegation from Zonguldak at Essen Town Hall. The meeting discussed ideas for stronger ties, including increased participation of Zonguldak companies in Essen's trade fairs like the prestigious E-world energy & water, which is the industry's leading meeting point in Europe.
Both cities face similar structural challenges and aim to improve visa conditions to facilitate exchange and cooperation. Essen and Zonguldak are looking forward to further collaboration, with plans for stronger participation of Zonguldak companies in Essen's trade fairs.
