EDM Council Acquires OMG, Forming EDM Association for Global Data Standards
EDM Council, a global leader in data governance, has acquired the Object Management Group (OMG), creating the EDM Association. This merger combines EDM's governance expertise with OMG's technical standards development, potentially boosting the path from experimental frameworks to production-ready models.
EDM Association now represents a vast community of 700+ organizations across various industries, including financial services, manufacturing, healthcare, automotive, and defense. With eight regional hubs and 50 years of internationally adopted standards, the association aims to make data truly portable, interoperable, and AI-ready for organizations.
The consolidation brings together professionals from diverse backgrounds, totaling over 30,000 members. EDM Association, previously EDM Council, claims to be the leading global community for building trust and confidence in data and standards. However, specific member organizations have not been disclosed.
While the merger promises accelerated innovation, it also raises questions about standards diversity and velocity. EDM Association will need to balance the integration of OMG's adoption process with maintaining a vibrant ecosystem of standards development.
EDM Association, formed by the acquisition of OMG by EDM Council, now commands a significant presence in the data governance landscape. With a vast member network and a rich history of standards adoption, the association is poised to drive progress in data portability, interoperability, and AI-readiness. However, the future of standards diversity and innovation velocity under this new structure remains to be seen.
