EcoFin Council to Decide on Romania's EU Funds Suspension in October
The EcoFin Council's next meeting, slated for October 8, 2025, could see a decision on the potential suspension of EU funds for Romania. The final call, however, rests on Romania's future financial moves. Alexandru Nazare, Romania's finance minister, has expressed optimism about the situation.
Nazare believes the risk of EU funds suspension has lessened due to recent government measures. He does not anticipate the funds to be halted at the October 10 EcoFin Council zoom meeting. The finance minister plans to continue discussions with the European Commission following the budget rectification.
Initially, budget talks began with a 7.7% of GDP deficit. However, the budget revision later revealed an increased deficit of 8.4%.
The EcoFin Council's upcoming meeting may decide the fate of EU funds for Romania. Alexandru Nazare remains hopeful, citing government actions and planned discussions with the European Commission. The final outcome, however, depends on Romania's future financial steps.
