Dresden Leads EU Mobility Project Aiming for 2030 Climate Neutrality

Dresden, aiming to be climate-neutral by 2030, is one of two pilot cities testing sustainable mobility solutions as part of the 'Mobilities for EU' project, funded by the European Commission. The project involves 28 institutions from nine countries, aiming to accelerate the climate-neutral traffic transition in European cities.

Transport accounts for over 30% of Europe's total energy consumption and is the second-largest emitter of greenhouse gases. The 'Mobilities for EU' project seeks to address this by developing new business fields and adapting processes for other cities. Dresden, one of the lead cities, will demonstrate the effectiveness of autonomous electric buses and a decentralized data ecosystem for automated driving through its NEUTRALPATH project.

The project, lasting five years, will test 27 mobility solutions in eleven pilot actions. Key themes include electrification, automation, and connectivity. Alongside Dresden, other lead and replication cities such as Madrid, Ioannina, and Gdańsk will also test innovative mobility technologies. The project aims to create a climate city contract for Dresden based on the pilot measures and results.

The 'Mobilities for EU' project, involving 28 institutions and funded by the European Commission, seeks to make transport more sustainable. Dresden's participation, with its focus on autonomous electric buses and data ecosystems, aligns with its goal to be climate-neutral by 2030. The project's results will contribute to creating a roadmap for other cities to follow.
