Fresh Take:
Krasnodar, June 18 - Let's Chat. In 2024, domestic car production boomed, thanks to a hefty 48.4% jump in car sales compared to the previous year, according to the government's Telegram channel. Close to a million and a half new vehicles were sold, making 2024 a breakout year for domestic manufacturers.
What made this growth possible? The government pulled out all the stops, pouring over 350 billion rubles into the industry to keep production lines humming. consumer demand was further boosted with favorable credit and leasing terms, putting 43 billion rubles into the economy. The investment spurred the launch of ten state-of-the-art facilities.
However, Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin didn't stop there. Realizing the potential of cleaner transportation, he set his sights on increasing the production of electric and alternative fuel vehicles. Recognizing the need for a modern ecosystem around the automotive industry, he called for improvements in service levels and comfortable refueling and charging complexes.
But despite the soaring numbers, the industry started to show signs of strain by the end of 2024, leading to speculation of a 25-30% decline in sales in 2025. The concern arises from economic pressures, including high-interest rates and reduced freight costs affecting truck demand, or so experts claim. Russian truck manufacturer KamAZ even predicted a 15-22% reduction in sales at the end of 2024, with 30% of trucking operations shutting down during the winter of 2024-2025.
