Disney's Most Awaited Cruise Vessel Departs from Dry Dock - Disney's latest cruise ship sets sail from its dock

The Disney Destiny, the third ship of the Wish class, is nearing completion at the Meyer Werft shipyard in Papenburg, Germany. The ship, which has approximately 1,250 cabins and can accommodate around 4,000 passengers, was launched (floated out) in August 2025, marking the transition to final outfitting and interior work.

After the float out, the Disney Destiny underwent sea trials starting at the end of August 2025. The ship is scheduled for delivery later in 2025 and has a maiden voyage set for November 20, 2025, from Florida.

While the initial homeporting for the Disney Destiny is planned for Singapore for the first five years starting in late 2025, the ship’s addition could allow Disney to serve "farther-flung itineraries" including the North Sea region in the future. However, no explicit North Sea itineraries have been officially announced for the Destiny as of now.

The Disney Destiny is part of four new orders from Disney that Meyer Werft received last year, with deliveries scheduled between 2027 and 2031. These orders are not part of the Wish class but will be delivered after the Disney Destiny.

Meyer Werft, known for its cruise ships, faced financial difficulties last year. The federal and state governments jointly acquired approximately 80% of Meyer Werft's shares for €400 million, and the governments also provided guarantees of around €1 billion each to secure bank loans for the company.

The new Disney cruise ships, including the Disney Destiny, are equipped with liquefied natural gas propulsion systems. These systems are designed to reduce emissions compared to traditional engines, making them more environmentally friendly.

Meyer Werft has a rich history with Disney, having built two cruise ships for the corporation in 2010 and 2011. The company also built the Disney Wish and Disney Treasure, sister ships to the Disney Destiny, which are also equipped with liquefied natural gas propulsion systems.

The launch of the Disney Destiny was witnessed by several thousand onlookers. With its maiden voyage set for November 2025, updates on potential North Sea cruises on the Disney Destiny may come closer to or after its launch as Disney expands its itineraries beyond Singapore and Florida.

Employment policies within the cruise industry, especially at Meyer Werft, might need to accommodate the increasing number of employees involved in constructing multiple Disney cruise ships, including the Disney Destiny. The finance and technology sectors will play crucial roles in managing the funding, construction timelines, and environmental considerations for these projects.

As the Disney Destiny expands Disney's reach to exotic destinations like the North Sea region, it's important for the company to develop appropriate community policies to ensure harmonious relations with local businesses and communities during its port visits.
