Despite challenging market conditions, sales of the Romanian car brand Dacia in France experience growth

In the first half of 2025, Romanian automaker Dacia has demonstrated significant growth in the French market, despite a generally challenging environment. According to recent reports, Dacia holds a 9.1% market share in the French passenger car segment, up 1.1% compared to the previous year, with 76,593 units sold. In the retail customer segment, Dacia’s share reaches a historic 15.2%.

June 2025 was particularly strong for Dacia, with 16,451 passenger cars registered, bringing the brand’s monthly market share close to 10%—one of the best months in its history in France. France is Dacia’s largest single market, accounting for over a quarter of its global sales, which hit approximately 345,000 units in the first half of 2025.

The Renault Group, Dacia's owner, also saw strong performance in June 2025, selling 49,767 passenger cars and achieving a 29.4% market share, surpassing rival Stellantis (with nine brands), which sold 41,809 cars and had a 24.7% share. Among individual models, the Renault Clio led the French market in 2025, while the Dacia Sandero ranked second despite an 18.6% year-on-year decline. The Dacia Duster also performed well, rising six spots and achieving a 31.9% increase.

Despite French consumers strongly favouring local manufacturers, Dacia’s rise in market share comes as its competitors (including some from the Renault and Stellantis groups) face declines in performance. The brand’s success is attributed to its value proposition and reliability, which is especially attractive in a market experiencing prolonged downturns and shifts towards more affordable vehicles.

While specific 2021 data is not available in the current report, Dacia’s current growth builds on past momentum. The brand has steadily increased its market presence in France, a trend consistent since at least the early 2020s. The Bigster, a new model launched this spring, has already reached 10,000 orders and leads the C-SUV retail segment.

In conclusion, Dacia is gaining market share in France despite an overall market contraction, leveraging strong retail sales and robust group support. Competitive pressure is high, but Dacia’s value-based offerings and increased model popularity help it outperform rivals in key segments. The brand’s resilience and strategic positioning within the Renault Group are evident in its continued growth and competitive standing in France’s dynamic passenger car market.

In the challenging French market, Dacia's growth in the automotive industry during the first half of 2025 is impressive, with a 9.1% market share in the passenger car segment and a historic 15.2% in the retail customer segment. Moreover, the brand's success extends beyond France, as it contributes to over a quarter of Renault Group's global sales in transportation, totaling approximately 345,000 units in the same period.
