Delay in Working Hours Compensation: Proposed Housing Subsidy Adjustment
Dresden, Germany - The city council in Dresden is taking urgent steps to address a backlog of housing benefit applications, which has been causing delays in payments for eligible residents.
The social welfare office in Dresden is currently experiencing a delay in processing housing benefit applications due to the increased number of applications following the recent housing benefit reform. This reform has made more people eligible for support, leading to a significant number of pending applications.
According to Michael Schmelich, the social policy spokesman for the dissenters, the current waiting period for housing benefit decisions is over a quarter of a year. This delay is causing applicants to face the risk of rent arrears or eviction.
To alleviate this issue, the city council in Dresden has filed an urgent application for faster housing benefit payments. The application, already on the agenda for Thursday, aims to expedite housing benefit payments for eligible residents in Dresden.
In an effort to manage the increased number of applications, the city has increased staff at the social welfare office. However, the office is still working at full capacity, attempting to clear the backlog of more than 6,000 housing benefit applications.
The city council is also advocating for advance payments for housing benefits due to the ongoing backlog. This proposal is for quick and unbureaucratic assistance if a housing benefit decision is not available within four weeks after application.
The ultimate goal remains to provide housing benefit payments to eligible residents in Dresden faster in the future. The city council is continuing to take steps to address the delay in housing benefit payments due to the backlog of applications.
Despite the challenges, the housing benefit reform in Dresden has been successful in making more people eligible for support. However, the city council and the social welfare office are working diligently to ensure that the benefits reach those who need them as quickly as possible.
