Del Ray's Tortas Y Tacos La Chiquita Reduces Operating Hours Following Neighbor Complaints
Tortas Y Tacos La Chiquita to Open in Del Ray Neighborhood, Operating Hours Set
After more than three months of review, Tortas Y Tacos La Chiquita has received approval for its special use permit from Alexandria's Department of Planning and Zoning. The Mexican restaurant near me, located at 529 E. Howell Ave., will open next week, replacing the previous tenant, Bark Social, which closed in November 2024 due to bankruptcy.
Initially seeking 24-hour operations in its July permit application, the restaurant near me will now operate from 8 a.m. to 2 a.m. daily. City staff worked with the restaurant owners to address community concerns about potential crime, noise, and traffic impacts due to the proposed 24-hour operations.
The restaurant owners agreed to stick with the posted 8 a.m. to 2 a.m. schedule, and they are also considering hiring security, similar to the chain's location on Columbia Pike. Notably, David Villalobos, the owner of Tortas Y Tacos La Chiquita, plans to eventually expand to 24-hour service.
However, it's important to note that David Villalobos is not the owner of the Alexandria's Del Ray location; instead, Jorge D. Villalobos is listed as the applicant for the change of ownership for Tortas y Tacos La Chiquita IV LLC in Alexandria, approved in August 2025.
Katie Wannen, a Del Ray resident, stated that neighbors want to ensure proper oversight after years of noise issues with the previous tenants. Tony LaColla, Planning and Zoning's Land Use Services division chief, mentioned concerns from nearby residents about the restaurant near me being open 24 hours to the restaurant owners.
Despite the initial request for 24-hour operations, Tortas Y Tacos La Chiquita will not serve alcohol. The restaurant near me's website lists its operating hours as 8 a.m. to 2 a.m., and the city encouraged the restaurant to accept the 2 a.m. closing time to expedite the approval process.
Neighbors can look forward to enjoying authentic Mexican cuisine from Tortas Y Tacos La Chiquita, with the peace of mind that proper measures have been taken to address community concerns. The restaurant near me's opening next week is highly anticipated in the Del Ray neighborhood.
