In a remarkable display of generosity, the Jewish year 5785 saw a significant surge in charitable giving both in Israel and worldwide.

Globally, donations totalled an impressive $669 million, with approximately 467 thousand individual donors contributing. This marks a notable increase in the number of donors compared to previous years.

The donations were made through 3,557 separate campaigns worldwide, with the "Ezer Mizion" organization leading the way by receiving nearly 37,000 contributions.

In Israel, the increase in charitable giving was particularly noteworthy. The total amount donated to public institutions and non-profit organisations was a record-breaking 432 million shekels, a 15.5% increase compared to the previous year. A total of 786 campaigns were conducted, with the Chabad Yeshiva in Safed leading the most successful fundraising campaign, raising over 90 million shekels.

The largest single-sum donation in Israel for the year was 7.2 million shekels to the Chabad Yeshiva in Safed. However, the identity of the generous donor remains anonymous.

The increase in donations, despite the ongoing challenges of the year, is a positive development, indicating increased charitable giving amidst challenging circumstances. The donations to public institutions and non-profit organisations in Israel for the Jewish year 5785 were the highest recorded in recent years.
