Construction work on the bridge restoration at the 397 structure in Homburg-Einöd, as specified in project B 423.

The State Road Authority (LfS) has announced that it will commence repairs and reinforcement works on structure 397, a bridge located in Homburg-Einöd, Saarpfalz district, on August 4, 2023. The project, which is expected to last until the end of 2024, will take place on the B423.

The bridge repair project involves a complete renewal of the bridge deck, repairs to the underside, and reinforcement of the internal and external structure. This extensive work aims to ensure the bridge's longevity and safety for years to come.

In the first phase of the project, traffic connections will be maintained, but with a reduced speed limit within the construction site. Towards the end of the project, the installation of steel components will necessitate the closure of the bridge to traffic to avoid vibration movements.

The second phase of the project, scheduled for late 2023/early 2024, will require a single-lane traffic flow with one-way traffic towards Homburg-Einöd. Counter traffic will be rerouted during this period.

The works on structure 397 will be carried out in several phases, and the LfS anticipates minimal traffic disruptions throughout the project. However, for the most accurate and detailed information, it is recommended to check local government or transportation department websites, traffic information portals or apps, local news outlets, or contact the regional road maintenance authority or the contractor responsible for the bridge repair project directly.

The bridge is located at the entrance to Einöd, coming from the A8 or Blieskastel, and crosses Wörschweiler Street and a railway track along the B423. The bridge repair project also includes the replacement of the bridge deck, including the bridge heads, and repairs to the underside of structure 397.

The LfS has emphasised its commitment to ensuring minimal disruptions to the public during the repair works and expects the project to be completed by the end of 2024, subject to weather conditions. The bridge closure for the installation of steel components will be limited to two weekends in 2024 (each Saturday and Sunday).

The bridge repair project, spanning the B423 and scheduled until the end of 2024, not only encompasses the renewal of the bridge deck but also includes significant works in finance, as the LfS will need to procure materials and services from the industry to execute the project. Additionally, the transportation department will need to manage traffic diversions and updates during the project, ensuring smooth flow in other routes affected by the construction on structure 397.
