Mandatory Bridge Rebuild on Norfer Street

Get ready for some traffic changes! The old bridges along Norfer Street are falling short in handling heavy loads, making a facelift impossible. So, it's time for a complete reconstruction.

Upcoming Road Closures

Gearing up for construction, crews have been busy prepping sites since mid-February, 2025. In the coming weeks, you can expect some traffic diversions. Starting March 17, the area of Norfer Street between Berghäuschensweg and Straße An der Norf will be blocked off completely. The A57 on-ramp won't be affected. Streets.NRW estimates a nine-month construction period. To reach your destination via detour, take Berghäuschensweg, Nixhütter Weg, Kölner, and Bonner Straße north, or head south via Berghäuschensweg, Nievenheimer Straße, Tucher Straße, and Bonner Straße. On Kölner Straße, there might be some congestion due to ongoing work on the barrier-free Humboldtstraße bus stop and traffic lights. Cyclists should detour via Harffer or Euskirchener Straße.

Sadly, the bike path under the Norfbach bridge also needs to be closed for the entire construction period. Cyclists will be detoured accordingly.

Temporary Street Closures

Not only roads will be affected, but temporary closures of Harffer and Euskirchener Straße will be necessary for the demolition of old bridges and installation of temporary structures. These closures will happen successively to ensure one street remains open for traffic at all times. Here's the schedule:

  • Harffer Straße will be fully closed from March 10 to 28
  • Euskirchener Straße will be closed from March 31 to May 30
  • Harffer Straße will be fully closed again from June 1 to August 18
  • Another closure of Harffer Straße is planned from September 19 to October 23

Parking Restrictions and Detours

To make way for detours and protect residents, no-parking zones will be set up on Bedburger Straße, Harffer Straße, and Lechenicher Straße. A 2.5-meter height limit will be enforced at the roundabout to Straße "An der Norf".

Temporarily Relocated Bus Stops

The bus stop under the bridge on Euskirchener Straße will be moved (March 31 to May 30) to Lechenicher Straße. Since construction work is planned beneath the bridge during this period, Euskirchener Straße will also be off-limits for pedestrians. For customers living north of Erfttal, it's suggested to use the Harffer Straße bus stop to avoid extended walks via the detour route.

Finding Construction Details

To stay informed about the latest construction updates and detour routes, it's best to check your local news sources or transportation department's website. They often provide detailed information on ongoing projects[1]. Similar projects, such as the I-15 bridge in Utah, involve crucial infrastructure work, including temporary street closures and diverted bus stops[2]. In Vancouver, WA, construction on a new pedestrian bridge has resumed, affecting nearby traffic and bus routes[3]. So, keep an eye on local announcements and preparations to navigate the construction period smoothly.

Construction on the new bridge of Norfer Street is approaching, meaning temporary closures and detours will soon be implemented. To accommodate truck traffic during this time, transportation alternatives in the industry and finance sectors may need to be considered for shipments requiring transit through the region. Cyclists should be aware of the closure of the bike path under the Norfbach bridge and detour accordingly.
