Markus Funk Joins White & Case LLP as a Distinguished Partner

Markus Funk, a former U.S. Attorney renowned for his work on Operation Family Secrets, has joined global law firm White & Case LLP as a partner in Chicago. This landmark investigation into Chicago organized crime, which inspired the movie Casino, earned Funk the Attorney General’s Award in 2007[1].

Funk's impressive career includes more than 10 years as an Assistant U.S. Attorney, during which he successfully tried dozens of federal and state jury trials and led over 500 investigations and 700 contested evidentiary hearings[1]. His expertise spans a broad range of litigation including product liability, contract disputes, counterfeiting, commodities fraud, defamation, intellectual property, insider trading, and False Claims Act matters[1].

After his government service, Funk joined White & Case LLP, where he now represents companies, executives, and boards in complex litigation, regulatory enforcement, anticorruption, and investigations[1]. His contributions to legal scholarship are also noteworthy, with the publication of a book titled "Mutual Legal Assistance Treaties and Letters Rogatory: Obtaining Evidence and Assistance from Foreign Jurisdictions," which addresses obtaining evidence and cooperation internationally[5].

In addition to his work at White & Case LLP, Funk has held impressive academic positions, including a lectureship in law at the University of Oxford[6]. His unique blend of high-profile prosecutorial success and extensive litigation experience at a leading global law firm makes Funk a distinguished figure in both public service and private practice law.

White & Case LLP has also recently expanded its Global Litigation Practice with the addition of several partners to its disputes capabilities, including Jonathan Polkes, Stacy Nettleton, Adam Banks, Xavier Hubert, and Brent Wible[2]. These additions have joined the Firm's New York, Paris, and Washington, D.C. offices, respectively[3].
