Prepare for Yakutsk's Public Transit Hike 🚌 💼 SoyuzAutoAndrey Kositsky 💰 Fare Increase

Cold breezes in Yakutsk might not be the only thing sending shivers down the spines of commuters. Starting January 1, 2025, city dwellers can expect to shell out a bit more for their daily journey thanks to a proposed increase in public transportation fares.

Grappling with rising costs for fuel, parts, driver salaries, and other expenses, the folks at SoyuzAuto aim to push the cash fare up to 50 rubles, although this figure is yet to be confirmed. In conversation with "YI," head honcho Andrey Kositsky addressed these concerns, explaining that the proposed increase will help them keep up with elevated operational costs.

In a bid to soften the blow, SoyuzAuto suggests setting the fare for bank card payments at 45 rubles—a decrease from the current 40 rubles. Fortunately, the lowest fare in town will remain intact at 22 rubles when traveling with a travel card.

Apart from this chilly news, it's worth recalling that the last fare hike hit Yakutsk buses on April 1 of this year, when the cash fare increased from 40 to 45 rubles. Fare prices on intercity routes tacked on an extra 7 rubles, setting the cash fare at 85 rubles.

Diving into the chilly archives of December 2022, we find Yakutsk buses bracing for another jolt with a steep increase from 33 rubles to 45 rubles. Unsurprisingly, the surge was attributed to sky-high fuel prices and the upkeep of public transportation infrastructure.

Caught up in the whirlwind of these fare adjustments, representatives of bus route No.12 echoed that they don't stand to directly benefit from the price hike.

Although research on historical bus fare bumps in Yakutsk is a bit scarce, some factors behind increasing bus fares across cities can be identified:

To ease the burden, the suggested bank card payment fare remains at 45 rubles, which is a decrease from the current 40 rubles.

The finance sector of Yakutsk's public-transit system, as well as transportation in general, faces challenges due to the escalating costs for fuel, parts, driver salaries, and infrastructure maintenance, which affect the prices of fares.
