Revamped Main Street: All About the "Climate Ped Path" in Bendorf

🗺️ Bendorf, here we go! This town is excited to bring a makeover to its main strip, thanks to a generous grant. The Federal Office for Logistics and Mobility (BALM) has stepped up, approving funding for the "Climate Ped Pathway" project, backed by the Federal Ministry of Digital and Transport (BMDV), to the tune of around 1.15 million euros out of a total budget of 1.28 million euros.

🌳 This upgrade is part of a larger plan for downtown Bendorf, focusing on urban climate protection and enhancing the experience for all road users, but especially pedestrians. The main street is getting a transformation from a two-lane road to a single lane, with the extra space converted into a lush, eco-friendly public area.

🪴 The revamp includes seating zones, water features for play and cooling, drinking fountains, and a level crossing between pedestrian zones and the roadway. Thanks to around 16 new trees, the street will become even greener, improving both climate and ambiance. Moreover, new perennial beds and insect-friendly LED streetlights are in the works.

🛠️ In total, approximately 1,160 square meters will undergo the transformation. Looking forward to it, Bendorf's mayor, Christoph Mohr, expressed thanks to the funders, stating that they have an opportunity to create safe pedestrian paths and appealing public spaces. Implementing the "sponge city" concept plays a big role in this endeavor, as climate justice is at the forefront.

💰 The project will kick off in Q2 2025, between Siegburger Street and Stein Street, with an estimated duration of 20 months, encompassing canal and road construction. The city aims to wrap up the work by early 2027.
