Kevin Durant Joins European Soccer Investment Trend with PSG Stake

NBA star Kevin Durant has expanded his sports investment portfolio by acquiring a minority stake in Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), France's largest soccer club. The financial details of the deal were not disclosed, but Durant has invested approximately $125.8 million through his media and investment platform, Boardroom, which he co-founded with Rich Kleiman.

PSG, the recent Champions League winners, have welcomed Durant as both an investor and strategic partner. The club's majority owner, QSI, has also formed a strategic partnership with Boardroom as part of this deal. This move positions Durant to explore basketball opportunities alongside soccer within PSG's multi-sport empire.

Durant's investment comes after Team USA men's basketball won its fifth straight gold medal at the Olympics. It also follows the club's Ligue 1 championship win. Durant's investment setup keeps him from holding any part of Arctos' NBA assets, which would violate league rules.

The news of Durant's investment in PSG follows a trend of American star athletes investing in European soccer clubs. LeBron James and Tom Brady have previously invested in Liverpool and Birmingham City, respectively.

Durant's investments through Boardroom Sports Holdings also include the 2023 NSWL champs Gotham FC and the Major League Soccer club Philadelphia Union. Durant acquired his PSG stake through this specialized vehicle, Arctos Partners.

This is not the first time Durant has invested in sports clubs. He has also invested in other sports such as pickleball, as evidenced by his investment in the Major League Pickleball club Brooklyn Aces.

It's worth noting that Russell Westbrook and J.J. Watt have also recently acquired stakes in English clubs, but the details of their investments have not been disclosed. The report does not mention any recent championship wins by the Philadelphia Union, Brooklyn Aces, or Gotham FC.
