Agrani Bank Joins July Reawakening Events in Commemoration of July Mass Uprising Day

On Tuesday, 5 August 2025, Agrani Bank PLC participated in the Victory Rally and Youth Festival 2025, which was part of the "July Reawakening Events 2025." This annual commemoration marks the anniversary of the July Mass Uprising Day, a significant event in Bangladesh's history that led to the collapse of the authoritarian regime in 2024.

The rally, led by Md Anwarul Islam, Managing Director and CEO of Agrani Bank, began at Farmgate and concluded at Manik Mia Avenue, passing through Bijoy Sarani. Senior executives and officials from the bank's Dhaka-based Circle Secretariats, regional offices, branches, subsidiary companies, and Islamic banking units and windows joined the event.

Agrani Bank's participation in the July Reawakening Events reflects its commitment to honouring the impact of the July Mass Uprising on Bangladesh's socio-political landscape. The bank's officials, officers, and employees from divisional, district, and upazila branches participated in the events across the country.

Notable attendees included AKM Fazlul Haque, General Manager (Principal Branch) of Agrani Bank, Tahmina Akhter and Rubana Parvin, Deputy Managing Directors of Agrani Bank, and Mohammad Fazlul Karim, General Manager (CAMELCO) of Agrani Bank. Leaders from various affiliated organizations also participated in the event.

The July Mass Uprising Day commemorates the pro-democracy mass uprising in Bangladesh in 2024, which marked the end of a 15-year rule by Sheikh Hasina. The uprising grew out of widespread grievances against authoritarianism, corruption, and the erosion of democratic institutions. People from diverse backgrounds united against oppression, demanding an end to class injustice, ethnic and religious discrimination, and gender inequality.

The government officially declared July Mass Uprising Day a public holiday starting in 2025, with extensive national commemorations including cultural events, film screenings, prayer gatherings, and tributes to martyrs who lost their lives during the uprising. The day serves as a symbol of resistance against autocracy and a renewed commitment to democracy, justice, and equal opportunities for all citizens.

The July Reawakening Events, a 26-day memorial celebration from July 1 to August 5, 2025, aim at promoting reflection on the uprising’s ideals and reinforcing societal efforts to build a discrimination-free and just Bangladesh as envisioned by the movement. These events are government-backed and are observed extensively across the country and diplomatic missions abroad.
