Audi's Mission:Zero Launches Rail Freight Service to Slash Emissions
Audi's Mission:Zero programme has launched a new service, aiming to reduce CO2 emissions by shifting freight from road to rail. The service, using Helrom's innovative trailer wagons, began operations on April 4, after a swift planning and implementation phase.
The service, running between Regensburg and Lébény, covers 1,000 km in just 24 hours. It uses a block train consisting of 18 wagons, carrying 36 trailers and equivalent to 72 trucks' worth of cargo. This significantly reduces road traffic and, consequently, emissions.
The patented Helrom Trailer Wagon enables barrier-free loading of all types of trailers from road to rail and back, eliminating the need for loading terminals. This efficiency has led to positive results since its launch in autumn 2024, as noted by Helrom's CEO, Roman Noack, in May 2025. The service is expected to save up to 11,500 tons of CO2 emissions per year, aligning with Audi's goal to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050.
The new service, a result of Audi's Mission:Zero programme and Helrom's innovative transport solutions, is proving effective in reducing emissions. By taking trucks off the roads and using efficient rail transport, it contributes significantly to Audi's long-term sustainability goals.
