Appointment announced for new Chief Investment Officer at Robeco
Robeco, a leading global asset manager, has announced the appointment of Anton Eser as its new Chief Investment Officer (CIO), effective September 1, 2025. Eser brings with him over 25 years of experience in global financial markets, having made significant contributions to various firms throughout his career.
Eser's career began at Aegon UK, where he helped launch the company's global credit business. He later joined Legal & General Investment Management (LGIM) in 2006, playing a crucial role in the growth of their global credit business. In 2013, he was appointed Co-Head of Global Fixed Income at LGIM, overseeing diverse strategies and teams across the fixed income platform.
From 2016, Eser served as CIO at LGIM, leading a large investment team spanning Index, Active Fixed Income, Global Equities, and Multi-Asset Solutions. Under his leadership, LGIM transformed from a UK-focused firm into a global asset manager with over USD 1.5 trillion in assets under management. Eser was also instrumental in integrating Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) considerations into investment processes and developing the influential Future World fund range.
Since 2021, Eser has been serving as CIO at 10X Investments, a growing fintech firm focused on multi-asset solutions in the South African market. Before that, he held the role of CEO at Caelum Investments.
Karin van Baardwijk, CEO at Robeco, expressed her excitement about Eser's appointment, praising his fresh perspectives and contributions to the investment platform. She believes that Eser's deep expertise aligns seamlessly with Robeco's strategic ambitions, particularly in expanding its emerging market offerings.
The departure of Mark van der Kroft, Robeco's current CIO, was also announced. After a 25-year tenure at Robeco, van der Kroft will retire on October 1. His leadership and dedication at Robeco over the past decades are greatly appreciated, and his retirement marks the end of an era at the company.
With Eser joining Robeco's executive committee, the company looks forward to taking the company to the next level, building on the strong foundation laid by van der Kroft. Eser will oversee a team of 350 investment professionals at Robeco across multiple asset classes.
Eser holds a bachelor's degree in accounting and economics from the University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg, South Africa.
