Appointed Leader at Twitter: Linda Yaccarino
In a surprising turn of events, Elon Musk, the current CEO of Twitter, has announced that Linda Yaccarino will be taking over as the company's new chief executive. The start date for Yaccarino's tenure is six weeks from the date of Musk's announcement.
Yaccarino, a veteran media executive born in 1963, brings a wealth of experience to the table. She started her career at Turner Broadcasting in the early 1990s and rose through the ranks to become the Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of advertising sales, marketing, and acquisitions. In 2011, she joined NBCUniversal as President of cable entertainment and digital advertising sales, eventually becoming the Chairman of Global Advertising and Partnerships.
During her time at NBCUniversal, Yaccarino led a significant transformation of the premium video advertising ecosystem worth $70 billion. She is also credited with launching NBC's streaming service, Peacock.
In 2023, Musk appointed Yaccarino as the CEO of X (formerly Twitter). During her two-year tenure, she focused on stabilising ad revenue, protecting free speech, and advancing Musk’s vision to transform the platform into an “Everything App”. Yaccarino's leadership at X was marked by navigating challenges, including controversy over AI chatbot content, before stepping down in July 2025.
Musk will continue to oversee the operations of Twitter's product, software, and systems. He will also transition to being the executive chair and chief technology officer of Twitter. The new CEO is expected to start in six weeks, but no further details about the transition were provided in the announcement.
Yaccarino, with an estimated net worth between $35 million and $40 million, is recognised as a media mogul who significantly influenced the digital advertising sector and led a major social media company during a complex period.
