Coining the Future: Not Games on Telegram
Anticipated Surge in Telegram Gaming: Revitalization of Classic Games by 'Notcoin' Creators
The smash-hit Telegram game Notcoin ignited last year's craze for tap-to-earn games, pulling in hundreds of millions of players. But the spark fizzled quickly as token launches fell short and the games themselves became repetitive.
Now, the masterminds behind Notcoin are shaking things up with their Not Games platform. Co-founder, Sasha Plotvinov, confidently predicts that this fresh approach to gaming on Telegram will revive the dying tap-to-earn genre.
"We've looked back at the last 10, 15, even 20 years to find successful games that people simply enjoyed playing. We're recreating those mechanics for a new era and layering on crypto economics," Sasha shared at Token2049 in Dubai.
The team is well aware of the pitfalls that plagued the earlier tap-to-earn games. The mindless tapping, the monotonous gameplay, and the underwhelming airdrops all contributed to players' waning interest.
By focusing on the gameplay, Not Games aims to create a sustainable market. They're leveraging The Open Network (TON) to enable players to trade skins and cosmetics on a dynamic open marketplace. According to Sasha, this will help avoid the all-too-common "pay-to-win" game mechanics.
The strategy seems to be working. Sasha remembers the thriving skin market in Counter-Strike, estimated to be worth a staggering $4.2 billion. He believes that Telegram gaming could benefit from a similar economic boom.
But why choose Telegram for gaming? "It's about convenience," says co-founder, Vladimir Plotvinov. "Why go through the hassle of downloading a game from the App Store when you can just open Telegram and play in seconds?"
Not Games is banking on the app's large user base - currently at 1 billion active users - and the potential for virality. With easy sharing features, their reinvented classics could see the same meteoric rise as earlier tap-to-earn games.
The first game on the Not Games platform is a reimagined version of the classic game Agar.io, called Void. More games are on the horizon.
The Plotvinov brothers didn't expect Notcoin's success, admitting it came too fast and furious to make sense of. They've since learned you don't need a perfect product to make a splash. Instead, they plan to launch ideas quickly and adapt based on user feedback.
To help Telegram claim its place as a gaming powerhouse, Not Games will continue to reinvigorate classic games within the app.
