Ana Botín under scrutiny for her role in the Spanish financial crisis

In the world of international banking, few individuals have made as significant an impact as Ana Botín. Born in Spain, Botín's journey began in New York, where she started her career at JPMorgan.

However, it was Santander that would become the cornerstone of Botín's illustrious career. Joining the bank in 1988, she quickly rose through the ranks, leading the Group's expansion in Latin America and playing a crucial role in its growth across Europe and North America.

Botín's tenure at Santander is marked by several key milestones. In 2002, she became the CEO of Banesto in Spain, and in 2010, she was appointed CEO of Santander UK. Her leadership was instrumental in shaping Santander into one of the largest and most efficient banks in the world, serving over 176 million customers across three continents.

Botín's influence extends beyond Santander. She is a member of the MIT CEO Advisory Board, the Board of the Coca-Cola Company, and the Chairwoman of the Board of Trustees of Fundación CyD. In 2023, she was appointed Chair of the Institute of International Finance (IIF) and the World Economic Forum International Business Council (IBC).

Educated at Bryn Mawr College with a BA in Economics, Botín is also the founder and Chair of Fundación CyD, Empieza por Educar, and several other charitable organisations. A devoted mother, she is married and has three sons.

In September 2014, Botín was appointed Executive Chair of Santander, a position that allows her to continue shaping the bank's future while also making a difference in the wider world. With her unwavering commitment to success and her dedication to philanthropy, Ana Botín continues to be a beacon of inspiration in the world of finance.
