Alimerka Leads Spanish Supermarkets in Electric Truck Adoption
Alimerka, a leading Spanish supermarket chain, has made significant strides in its sustainability efforts. It boasts the largest fleet of electric trucks in Spain and ranks among Europe's top five. The company's commitment to green logistics is evident in its recent acquisitions and infrastructure developments.
Alimerka's electric trucks, typically Scania 25P models, have a range of 250 to 200 kilowatts and a capacity of 300 kilowatts of autonomy with a full charge. This allows them to complete their total autonomy in about half an hour between trips. The company unveiled 21 of these units in February 2023, adding to its already impressive fleet.
The company's electric trucks have significantly reduced its carbon footprint, up to 80% compared to conventional vehicles. They also contribute to improved process efficiency, as seen in their typical local delivery routes from distribution centers to retail stores in Asturias. Alimerka's focus on efficiency and sustainability in its supply chain is evident in these daily operations.
Alimerka's commitment to sustainability began in 2017 with the installation of solar panels and the replacement of vehicles with LNG. This was further bolstered in 2019 with the acquisition of the largest photovoltaic installation in Lugo de Llanera, comprising 7,500 panels with a peak power of 2.41 MW. The company's first 100% electric trucks arrived in 2021, and since then, it has continued to expand its electric fleet, now numbering 26 electric vans for order deliveries.
Alimerka's investment in electric vehicles and charging infrastructure, including 19 Siemens 150-kilowatt charging points, reflects its dedication to sustainable logistics. With its extensive electric fleet and commitment to renewable energy, Alimerka is not only reducing its environmental impact but also setting a standard for sustainability in the industry.
