Volvo-tied Polestar 7 given a glimpse: Constructed in Slovakia, projected for a 2028 launch
Polestar Unveils Upcoming Electric Compact SUV: The Polestar 7
Polestar, a premium electric vehicle manufacturer, has announced the development of its latest model – the Polestar 7. Scheduled for launch in 2028, the Polestar 7 is set to join the growing electric vehicle market with its unique features and design.
The Polestar 7 will be built on Volvo's SPA3 platform, sharing components with other vehicles in the group to ensure cost-efficient access to the latest technologies. This compact electric SUV will also leverage group component sharing, as seen in the Polestar 2 and Polestar 3.
One of the standout features of the Polestar 7 will be its use of next-generation cell-to-body battery technology. However, the specifics, such as battery size, range, and output figures, have yet to be disclosed. What we do know is that the vehicle will feature bespoke tuning and design tweaks, promising a minimalist vibe with sharper dynamics.
The Polestar 7 will be developed and manufactured in Europe, strengthening Polestar's position in its home market. Production will take place at a Volvo plant in Slovakia, alongside a new Volvo model, with a capacity of 250,000 units.
The Polestar 7 will also boast in-house developed electric motors, adding to its unique offering in the competitive electric vehicle market. It will face competition from the EX60, due next year, which will debut a novel "multi-adaptive safety belt" system. This system adjusts in real-time to the occupant's size, posture, and external traffic data, offering an advanced level of safety.
The Polestar 7 and the EX60 build on the success of the joint efforts on the Polestar 2 and Polestar 3. Both vehicles are shaping up to be strategic plays and design differentiators in the growing electric vehicle market.
While the details of the Polestar 7's safety features, including the "multi-adaptive safety belt" system, are still under development, the teaser image suggests a bold front fascia, prominent fenders, and signature Polestar badging.
As Polestar continues to carve out its identity as an independent brand, the Polestar 7 represents a significant step forward. It will be built on the Polestar Performance Architecture (PPA), first introduced with the Polestar 5, demonstrating the company's growing independence from Volvo while utilising their platforms.
Stay tuned for more updates on the Polestar 7 as we approach its 2028 launch. The future of electric vehicles is here, and Polestar is at the forefront of this exciting journey.
