United Airlines Expands at Dulles with New Concourse and 14 Gates by 2026
United Airlines is set to significantly expand its presence at Washington Dulles International Airport by the end of 2026. The expansion, part of United's 'United Next' program, includes a new Concourse E with 14 gates and a large lounge, directly connected to the airport's Aerotrain for quick access.
The new concourse, covering over 40,000 square meters, will be used exclusively by United. It aims to enhance capacity for long-haul flights and improve facilities to better serve widebody aircraft. This will allow for more international and non-Schengen destinations to be served efficiently.
United currently holds a 67.3% market share at Dulles, including its regional partners. By April 2025, the airline plans to increase the number of daily flights from around 250 to 280. This expansion is part of a $32 billion investment since 2021 under the 'United Next' program.
The airport, which opened on November 17, 1962, and is named after former Secretary of State John Foster Dulles, covers a total area of 4,500 hectares, with 1,550 hectares used for aviation. In 2023, it handled around 25.1 million passengers.
United's expansion at Dulles, costing over half a billion dollars, will significantly boost its hub's capacity and connectivity. The new Concourse E, connected to the Aerotrain, will provide passengers with quick and convenient access to other areas of the airport. This investment underscores United's commitment to growing its presence at Dulles and enhancing the overall travel experience for its passengers.
