Union Faction's IAA 2025 Paper Sparks Debate on EV Industry Future
The Union faction, with input from the Association of the Automotive Industry (VDA), has published a position paper titled 'Position Collection for IAA 2025'. The paper, which includes suggestions from Tilman Kuban of the CDU, has sparked debate on the future of the automotive industry.
The VDA, which contributed to the paper, has called for a forward-looking expansion of power and hydrogen networks. It also demands better mobile phone networks on highways, suggesting the use of additional funds from special assets for modernization. Tilman Kuban, a member of the CDU/CSU parliamentary group in the Bundestag, supports this view and has suggested moving the VDA's point about network expansion further up in the position paper.
The Union faction has formulated a qualification program for employees, but Kuban and his staff disagree, stating that it's not meaningful given the current job reductions and no shortage of skilled workers. The VDA has warned that the switch to electric cars will lead to fewer jobs and demands political action to create new jobs. The Union faction, aligning with the VDA's views, has criticized the 'overreaching combustion engine ban'.
The 'Position Collection for IAA 2025' has highlighted the need for infrastructure improvements and job creation strategies in the face of the automotive industry's shift towards electric vehicles. Tilman Kuban's suggestions, along with the VDA's contributions, have added significant insights to the debate.
